Case Study – Q&A with Hannah at Sanctuary Plants

From Kew to Calm: The Story of Sanctuary Plants

For Hannah, owner of Sanctuary Plants, greenery has always been a way of life. Raised in a home overflowing with botanical life, her path back to nature wasn’t immediate, but it was inevitable.

A Journey of Growth

After university, Hannah found herself navigating a series of desk jobs that never quite clicked. Seeking a change of pace, she enrolled in an RHS Level 2 Horticulture evening course, a decision that changed everything. This spark led her from a local plant shop to the world-renowned Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, where she honed her expertise among some of the rarest species on Earth.

Cultivating Expertise

In the wake of the pandemic, Hannah expanded her horizons even further, working within some of the UK’s most prestigious and beautiful gardens. These experiences solidified her belief in the profound connection between nature and nurture.

Today, Hannah has come full circle. Through Sanctuary Plants, she shares her deep-seated passion for:

  • Horticultural Excellence: Professional grade care and plant knowledge.
  • Holistic Wellness: Helping others discover how nature can transform mental health.

Built on a Solid Foundation

Hannah’s success isn’t just rooted in passion; it’s built on professional integrity. By meticulously researching the startup process and ensuring all legal documentation was in place from day one, she created a stable, confident business. This allows her to focus on what she does best.

Who is the Founder of your startup?

Me, Hannah Fraser

What is your startup?

I have a small houseplant shop in East Lothian, Scotland

At what stage is your business?

New business, operating since August 2025

How did you find shizl?

Word of mouth, my partner mentioned it to me, I think he had seen it on LinkedIn

What did you use prior to shizl?

I did not use anything/ I had no need to

Why did you turn to shizl?

I wanted to produce a simple document without paying expensive legal fees

Why do you think a product like shizl is important?

I think it’s important to give business owners control, transparency and value for money when producing legal documents, especially if its boilerplate stuff. This is why I used shizl and I was pleased with the results.

What do you use shizl for?

I used Shizl to produce a general sales terms document after watching a webinar that emphasised the importance of publishing my sales terms.

How has that helped your business?

I now feel more confident that my business is compliant, as my sales terms are published on the website, easily emailed to clients and linked on the till receipts.

What would you advise fellow Founders regarding legal documentation?

Pay attention to webinars mentioning compliance or changes to legal requirements relevant to your field, you might pick up something useful!

Anything else to say about shizl?

I liked the end product and would recommend it to others. The system was easy to use and good value for money. The only downside was the process for purchasing “credits” which seemed unecessary – if the system is pay as you go, just allow that form of payment?
